WHO WE ARE
The Santa Cruz
Quakes began providing opportunities for talented and motivated girls by
fielding 2 teams in 1997. In 2002, the Quakes supported 9 teams in the 10
thru 16 year old age groups. The Quakes play in the AAU Pacific District
Spring Tournament Series from mid March to the beginning of May,
culminating in a trip to Reno
for the Regional Championships.
THE BENEFITS
OF PLAYING QUAKES AAU BASKETBALL:
- Valuable
input from exposure to a variety of coaches and players
- Opportunity
to play against the best players throughout Northern
California
- Playing
with girls from other teams in your school league, which fosters a
sense of sportsmanship that can carry over into school league play
- Fun
and camaraderie that comes from the traveling team experience.
THE
COMMITMENT REQUIRED:
- To
play Quakes AAU basketball involves 2 practices a week before the
tournaments start and 1 to 2 practices a week during the tournament
season.
- Tournaments
consist of 2 games on Saturday and one on Sunday and may require an
overnight stay. The Quakes typically play tournaments in San
Jose, Petaluma,
San Francisco, Tracy,
Napa, Modesto,
Reno and Sacramento.
Parents are responsible for lodging, meals and transportation to and
from tournaments.
- The
Quakes player fee is $450 ( all players must be AAU members -
$14) and includes 6 tournaments
- Additionally,
cost of jersey, shorts, and warmup TShirt is approximately $90
- Quakes
teams (players, coaches and parents) are required to staff a gym for
the Quake’s Surf City Slam Tournament in April.
MORE THAN
BASKETBALL:
It
is also the goal of the Quakes to instill in its players a sense of
responsibility, commitment, volunteerism, teamwork, and fair play. That’s
why we feel it’s important that players and parents take part in the
fund-raising and work at our tournament. We are constantly trying to
improve our club as it grows to meet the needs of the girls of Santa Cruz
County
